5 things you can do at home while staying home for the safety of your friends and family

Rejoice!

We are now able to go out and spend time with our friends, family and loved ones, and dining out as well! Although dining out is still only available for a maximum of 2 per table, being able to eat freshly prepared kitchen meals is definitely tastier than eating that bowl of soggy ramen that spent 30 minutes swishing around in its container while being delivered to your doorstep.

However, there are times where you want to stay at home just to feel safer in the comfort of your own home, away from COVID-19. Or you might want to stay away from the temptations of “heaty” food such as those crispy Taiwan XL Fried Chicken. Don’t worry, as we have planned out a few activities or ideas you can try out at home, all while enjoying Chinese herbal teas for a refreshing experience, such as our own Thye Shan French Rose Bud Tea.

Rediscovering long lost hobbies

Remember when there was a time during your youth where you were so enthusiastic at the notion of enjoying your favourite hobby? While working or schooling might have decreased your time spent on your hobby, and you no longer felt interested in them, now it is the time for you to reignite that burning passion!

Start a stamp collection. Create arts and crafts! Bake some tasty looking macarons and master the art of Dalgona coffee (Remember Circuit Breaker?).

Rediscovering long lost hobbies is like popping bubble wrap. Once you start, you can’t stop.

Can’t remember your long lost hobbies, or don’t know what hobbies to start from? Here is a list of hobbies that you can start at home (We personally like doing brain boosting puzzles, with a cup of Thye Shan Jasmine Flower Tea as they could boost brain function, helping us stay alert and energized to tease our brains with puzzles!).

Learn New Skills

Spending the whole weekend home? Besides rediscovering hobbies, learning new skills can be fun too! Learning new skills can be as simple as learning how to dismantle and clean a fan, to even more intricate ones like knitting and sewing! While learning new skills, you can still enjoy the process with your friends too! Zoom call your friends while you all watch YouTube videos to learn new skills!

If you want to learn more in-depth regarding a skill, let’s say, photography, there are always online platforms for experienced mentors to teach you! One such example is Skillshare, where mentors with valuable experiences host pre-recorded online classes to impart their knowledge.

By the end of Phase two heightened alert, you would definitely feel more fulfilled after weekends of learning skills!

However, learning new skills through online courses can be taxing on your eyes and might induce stress. Hence, drinking our very own Thye Shan Bright Vision Tea can help sustain energy levels within the body and relieve tired eyes! Besides giving you energy boosts that you need, the Bright Vision Tea also helps with strengthening our body’s immune system!

For relieving stress, try our Premium Eight Treasures Floral tea.

This unique blend of tea contains eight health boosting ingredients, including American Ginseng. This tea can help relieve stress, as well as detox the human body too! It is surprisingly easy to prepare as well, with no steeping needed! Just place ingredients into provided tea filter pouches, immerse them into a pot with hot water for 20 minutes, and it’s ready to drink!

Learning to cook your favourite dishes

Although it is considered as learning a new skill, being able to cook is an invaluable skill, hence it deserves its own category! Cooking can not only save money in the long run, it can also be a healthier option to consume meals, as opposed to “dabao-ed” meals.

What matters most is that, by learning how to cook your favourite dishes, you get to choose how the dish tastes, and exactly tune it to how you like! If you like chinese dishes, you can try cooking fried rice for starters. This is a simple yet tasty dish! However, if you feel like drinking pork based soup, you can always try out our Nanyang Bak kut teh! It is simple to cook and ensures a great tasting soup for a family of four to six to enjoy.

Craving for others instead? Do not worry! Our own Assorted Mushroom Immunity Boosting Soup is here for you! Containing 3 types of mushrooms, it is an easy to prepare dish as well! Just place ingredients in a pot with 2.5 to 3 litres of water, boil and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours and it is ready to consume! Great tasting, yet strengthening the body’s immune system.

Start exercising to keep fit

During this period when we are all staying at home, it is important for all of us to keep fit! Besides the usual planks and push ups, you can also try light high-intensity interval training (HIIT) Exercises. HIITs are a combination of regular static exercises such as push-ups, crunches and even prone rows. However, if you are reading this article and you want to introduce a set of workout routines for your elderly parents, simple ones will do the trick!

Simple exercises such as walking 10,000 steps can benefit their health too, especially when there is the National Steps Challenge going on, which incentivises walking for all ages!

However when you are exercising at home and you are feeling tired and want something refreshing, you can always drink our Thye Shan Honeysuckle tea. Honeysuckle tea has a slightly sweet taste, while maintaining a natural honey flavour. This sweet tea is also refreshing and boosts the immune system. Just cook the fresh herbs for 20-25 mins and it is ready to drink!

Go on virtual tours

If you are eager to visit these attractions, while in the comfort and safety of your own home, then you are in luck! Several attractions are offering ongoing virtual tours, including virtual tours in the Art Science Museum.

Put on your earphones and listen to some soothing music (We recommend lo-fi), and “stroll” along in a virtual museum for a relaxing and soothing experience.

Hopefully this list will contribute to a more fulfilling time spent at home!

Stay strong, stay safe and strengthen your body’s immune system!
